The 40th running of the Ken Hall Trophy event was run at Manor Farm, Langrish on Bank Holiday Monday with the weather remaining kind after a persistent rain during the night.

In Race 1 Maris Rupeiks / Haralds Kurpneiks took the holeshot from Scott Wilkinson / Gary Burt, Paul Pelling / Craig Burt and in fourth place were the Derks boys from Holland. As they charged up Cold Hill for the first time Rupeiks opened a small gap over Wilkinson who was now being attacked by John and Mark Watson with Jan Hendrickx / Tim Smeuninx in fourth. On lap four Hendrickx was up to second place and started to close on Rupeiks. By half distance Rupeiks was suffering with oil leaking all over the front of his bike so he slowed down and Hendrickx gratefully accepted the lead.

With Rupeiks slowing Wilkinson started to close the gap and with only three laps left he was within a few bike’s lengths of the Latvian. At about this stage of the race Watson suffered a broken front brake hose and started to slow, eventually slipping down to fifth. Hendrickx won from Rupeiks with Wilkinson just one second behind in third.

In Race 2 Jan Hendrickx took the holeshot from Wilkinson and Rupeiks. By lap three Rupeiks passed Wilkinson but he was a long way behind Hendrickx and would really have his work cut out catching him.

As the race progressed Rupeiks made no impression on Hendrickx whilst Wilkinson kept a safe distance ahead of the Cermak brothers.

With one lap left there was real drama when Hendrickx’s rear wheel spindle (see photos) broke. He slowed up dramatically but Rupeiks could not quite catch him.

This gave the Belgian the overall win from Rupeiks with Wilkinson third
